“This new Podoblock SCANwedge is very helpful in performing the hyperextension-test of the coffin joint. The different structures can be stressed individually. With a deep digital flexor tendon, both navicular bone and bursa are easily put under tension and pressure by lifting the toe. By placing the wedge from the side under the hoof, it is easy to put tension on the collateral ligaments of the toe and pressure on the joint surfaces of the opposite side. Therefore, the wedge is an excellent tool to make a precise diagnosis in a clinical lameness exam. Furthermore, the wedge can be used to perform a better ultrasound of the collateral ligaments of the coffin joint. The ligament can be visualized more distally by stretching it a bit out of the hoof capsule.”
